Second
Grade
A student in
Second Grade will demonstrate behavior that is in keeping with Catholic values
when using technology, including respect for property, honesty, and compassion.
A Second Grade student will also understand that a computer is a machine made
by man to assist with work.
In addition to supporting and
mastering the General Computing Knowledge objectives introduced in the previous grades, a student completing
the Second Grade will:
á Explain
what a hard drive is and what it is used for.
á Identify
the active and non-active options in a menu.
á Save
a file, using the mouse.
á Locate
a submenu using the mouse.
á Open,
use and close a desk accessory.
In addition to supporting the
Keyboarding objectives from
previous grades, a student completing the Second Grade will:
á Use
informal keyboarding skills to type a paragraph.
á Use
shift, caps lock, tab, and arrow keys.
á Use
special keys (command, option, and control).
A Second Grade student will
use software that supports Core-Curriculum objectives.
A student will be introduced
to a Graphics application and,
prior to the completion of Second Grade, will:
á Use
the eraser in a graphics program.
á Use
the paintbrush in a graphics program.
á Use
the spray can in a graphics program.
á Use
the graphics bucket in a graphics program.
á Change
the color or pattern of the paintbrush, paint bucket, or spray can in a
graphics program.
A student will be introduced
to a Word Processing application
and, prior to the completion of Second Grade, will:
á Access
and open a word processing program.
á Enter
text.
á Delete
text using the delete key or backspace key.
á Use
the space bar.
á Change
the text size.
á Open
a word processing file.
á Understand
the concept of the insertion point and the cursor.
á Use
special keys such as shift, tab, and return/enter.
á Save
and retrieve word processing files.
