Sixth
Grade
A student in Sixth Grade will
demonstrate behavior that is in keeping with Catholic values when using
technology, including respect for property, honesty, and compassion. A Sixth
Grade student will display skills to analyze the appropriateness and
reliability of information found on the internet and will identify how
technological competency is essential in many careers.
In addition to supporting and
mastering the General Computing Knowledge objectives introduced in the previous grades, a student completing
the Sixth Grade will:
á Contrast
different types of computers.
á Give
a brief history of the computer.
á Name
people, inventions and innovations in technology.
á Explain
how a network operates.
á Explain
the operation of a network server.
In addition to supporting the
Keyboarding objectives from
previous grades, a student completing the Sixth Grade will continue to polish
and enhance formal keyboarding skills using proper technique.
A student completing the
Sixth Grade will use different software applications for projects that support
and enhance Core-Curriculum
objectives.
In addition to supporting and
mastering the Graphics concepts
introduced in the previous grades, a student completing the Sixth Grade will:
á Manipulate
a graphic and use it to illustrate an idea in another document.
á Create
a graphic and export it to another document.
á Use
a scanner or digital camera to capture his or her own digital images.
á Import
a digital image into a word processing document.
In addition to supporting and
mastering the Word Processing
concepts introduced in the previous grades, a student completing the Sixth
Grade will:
á Use
the find/replace command.
á Insert,
position, and remove tabs.
á Use
the thesaurus (if applicable).
In addition to supporting and
mastering the Internet and Telecommunications objectives introduced in the previous grades, a student completing
the Sixth Grade will:
á Develop
a project using online resources.
á Implement
a project using online resources.
In addition to supporting and
mastering the Electronic Presentation
objectives introduced in the previous grades, a student completing the Sixth
Grade will:
á Understand
the concept of a template.
á Understand
the concept of color schemes.
á Understand
the concept of background items.
á Add
relevant clip art to a slide.
A student will be introduced
to the Database and, prior to
the completion of Sixth Grade, will:
á Determine
what items to use in a physical database.
á Retrieve
a record from a physical database-single field, exact match.
á Determine
what items to use in an electronic database.
á Retrieve
a record from an electronic database-single field, exact match.
á Use
a public database.
á Add
new records to a file.
á Enter
new information to one or more fields of an existing record.
á Save
updated records on disk.
á Organize
a file by sorting alphabetically, numerically, or chronologically on a chosen
field.
á Print
sorted records and use the information.
á Retrieve
a record from an electronic database-multiple field, exact match.
á Retrieve
a record from an electronic database-partial match.
A student will be introduced
to the Spreadsheet and, prior to
the completion of Sixth Grade, will:
á Open
a spreadsheet program.
á Save
and retrieve spreadsheet files.
á Recognize
the parts of a spreadsheet.
á Understand
the purpose of a spreadsheet.
á Recognize
new menus within the spreadsheet environment.
á Move
to a specific cell on a spreadsheet.
á Enter
text or numbers into a spreadsheet.
á Select
a cell or block of cells.
á Change
the order of information within a column by sorting.
á Insert
or delete cells.
á Format
a cell or block of cells.
á Display
or remove the grid.
á Display
or remove the column and row headings.

column widths.
