Computer Literacy Curriculum

Kindergarten

 

 

A student in Kindergarten will demonstrate behavior that is in keeping with Catholic values when using technology, including respect for property, honesty, and compassion.

 

A student will be introduced to General Computing Knowledge topics and, prior to the completion of Kindergarten, will:

 

á      Identify the computer as a machine that helps people work and play.

á      Identify the basic parts of a computer.

á      Properly start and shut down a computer.

á      Identify the doÕs and don'ts of using a computer.

á      Identify and use removable storage media (for example, and certainly not limited to: CD & DVD, 3 ½Ó floppy disk, compact flash cards).

á      Identify the mouse and explain how it works.

á      Move the mouse and point to a desired location.

á      Point and click using the mouse.

á      Click and drag desktop icons.

á      Point and double click using the mouse.

á      Identify icons for files, programs, folders, and disks.

á      Select and deselect an icon using the mouse.

á      Start a program using the mouse.

á      Print a document.

á      Quit a program using the mouse.

á      Open and close folders using the mouse.

 

A student will be introduced to Keyboarding concepts and, prior to the completion of Kindergarten, will:

 

á      Understand relative position of the keys on a keyboard.

á      Identify and use letter and number keys.

á      Identify and use punctuation and symbol keys.

á      Use the space bar, return/enter, and delete/backspace keys.

 

A Kindergarten student will use software that supports Core-Curriculum objectives.
