SHA Computer Lab
The Sacred Heart Computer Lab consists of both Macintosh and
Pentium computers. The lab and the entire school is integrated
with free roaming wireless internet conductivity. The 21 EMacs
in the lab run OS X Jaguar operating system and have CDR, CDRW
and DVD creation capabilities. The lab also has cable modem
internet access with all computers having internet capabilities.
The students have a wide range of peripherals to use such as
scanners and digital cameras (both still and video).
Each teacher has a IBook laptop computer in the classroom
as well and is linked to the wireless network. Weekly curriculum
updates and timely student progress reports are generated from
this network. In addition, primary, intermediate, and middle
school groups have access to their own independent ink jet
or laser printer. All classes have computerized grading (except
Kindergarten). All classes have internal e-mail capabilities.
Students learn basic
keyboarding starting in 1st grade. All grades including Kindergarten
are exposed to the computer and
technology curriculum. Curriculum is consistent with Diocesan
policy. In addition, students learn multimedia presentations,
work processing in Microsoft Word and Appleworks, database
management, spreadsheet, graphing, Microsoft Power Point and
Excel, and working with the internet. Digital photography,
working with Adobe Photoshop, and editing video are also offered
in more advanced classes.
The library is also connected to the wireless network and
has full internet capabilities. Students may use the library
and the lab before, during, and after school for independent
research.
