FROM THE PRINCIPALâS DESK...

We are now in the final year of the Churchâs preparation for the Jubilee of the year 2000. Preparation to observe the coming of Jesus as "the one savior of the world" two thousand years ago challenges us to proclaim anew our faith that in Christ the Lord "can be found the key, the center and the goal of all human history." Also, it provides us with the opportunity to usher in what Pope John Paul II envisions as "a new springtime of Christianity" through "a new evangelization" rooted in the message and mystery of Christ.
The theme for the Jubilee of the year 2000 is: Jesus Christ, the One Savior of the World, Yesterday, Today, and Forever.
The theme for the year 1999 is: Conversion to the Father in Lives of Compassion.
The goal for the year 1999 is: Conversion to God as our loving Father, revealed by Christ and drawing us to Himself in the Holy Spirit with love for every member of the human race, love we must know and to which we must respond for eternal salvation, so that all of Christian life comes to be understood and appreciated as "a great pilgrimage to the house of the Father, and "a great act of praise to Him." (Tertio Millenio Adveniente, 49)
The objectives the year 1999 are:
1. Reflection on the unconditional love of God for every human creature, and in particular for the "prodigal son", so that we will broaden our horizons to see things in the perspective of Christ - in the perspective of the "Father who is in heaven" - and imitate His compassion, with the consequent "pilgrimage to the Father" beginning in the heart of each person, extending to the believing community, and reaching to the whole of humanity.
2. To engage "a journey of authentic conversion to the Father" with the renewed appreciation of the Sacrament of Penance which both liberates from sin and leads to renewed commitment to the ethical values expressed in the natural law, confirmed and deepened in the Gospel.
3. Renewed appreciation of the theological virtue of charity, recalling its twofold aspect, love of God and love of neighbor, as the summing up of the moral life of the believer, life which must extend to include commitment to justice and peace, and proclamation of "the gospel of life" - life in solidarity with "my neighbor", especially the poor, the marginalized and those who experience injustice, prejudice, discrimination, rejection, or are "held captive" in any way.
4. Recommitment to meet the challenge of secularism and the crisis of civilization, impoverished by its distance from God and lack of common values, by fostering "a civilization of love", founded on the universal values of peace, solidarity, justice and liberty which find their full attainment in Christ; and to recommit ourselves also to inter religious dialogue and cooperation preeminently with Jews and Muslims.
5. To foster gospel values in our society, promoting the dignity of the human person, the importance of the family, and the common good, so that the world might continue to be transformed by the saving power of Christ.
6. As the royal, servant people of God, to respond more deeply to our call to COMMUNION in Godâs merciful love and our MISSION to serve: as the beloved of God to be compassionate; to love one another, above all the poor and those with special needs, as God loves us in Christ.
7. To study systematically Part Three of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: "Life in Christ", toward better witness to what we believe, in faithful and holy lives filled with hope and works of charity.
8. Contemplation of Mary, the highly favored daughter of the Father and the perfect model of love for both God and neighbor, who invites everyone "to return to the house of the Father" by "doing whatever Christ tells us", and who was given by Jesus to be taken into the homes of his disciples to be our mother while on our "journey to the Father." ?

PRAYER FOR 1999 IN PREPARATION FOR THE MILLENNIUM
God, our Loving Father,
as we begin this final year of
preparation for the 2,000th
Anniversary of Jesusâ birth,
strengthen in us Your gifts of
Faith, Hope, and Charity.
Open our minds and hearts to Your daily
guidance that we might
imitate Your forgiving
and compassionate love.
May this year of 1990 be for
us a time of reconciliation
and healing, a time of
spiritual growth and renewal
and a time for more closely
following Your beloved son,
Jesus Christ.
Gracious God, Heavenly
Father, Source of all life and
goodness, watch over us and
bless us on every day of this
journey.
Amen

HOT LUNCH ORDERS
When you send your hot lunch order in for each month, please make sure that you mark your calendar at home the days that you have ordered for your child. THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Please do not call the school to see if your child has hot lunch for that day, and please tell your child before he/she leaves for school whether they have hot lunch for the day.
Thank you for cooperating with us on this.

BEING A RESPONSIBLE PARENT

As parents we are always expecting our children to be responsible, to be thoughtful, and to be respectful. In order for us to expect this from our children, we must first set the example to them of these important character traits.

If your child is involved in an activity after school, whether it be being a part of a school sports team, enrolled in an after school class, or in extended day care; it is your responsibility as a parent to make sure that you are on time to pick up your child from the activity. It is very presumptuous of you to expect the instructor, the coach, or the extended care director to stay until you finally come pick up your child.

I strongly urge you to always be punctual, responsible, and respectful. You can do this by always picking up your child on time.

SEARCHING FOR HAPPINESS?
We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids arenât old enough and weâll be more content when they are. After that, weâre frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse get his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, are able to go on a nice vacation, when we retire.
The truth is, thereâs no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with challenges. Itâs best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway.
A favorite quote comes from Alfred D. Souza. He said, "For a long time it had seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life."
This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. HAPPINESS IS THE WAY. So, reassure every moment that you have. And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time...and remember that time waits for no one.
So stop waiting until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter, until the first or the fifteenth, until your song comes on, until you die, until you are born again to decide that THERE IS NO BETTER TIME THAN RIGHT NOW TO BE HAPPY!
HAPPINESS IS A JOURNEY, NOT A DESTINATION.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Work like you donât need money,
Love like youâve never been hurt.
And dance like no oneâs watching! ?
