Vice Principal
& 2nd Grade
Teacher -
Mary Zapata
Mary Zapata holds a BA in Liberal Studies from San Diego State University.
She has a California Teaching Credential with supplementary
authorizations in Social Studies from San Diego State University
(S.D.S.U.) and Science from the University of California, San
Diego. Ms. Zapata also has a Diploma in Religious
Education from the University of San Diego. After teaching 20 years in the classroom she returned to school to become a school librarian and for the next 10 years served in that capacity at Sacred Heart Academy (SHA.) She enjoyed the change but missed the classroom and has been teaching 2nd grade for the past 3 years.
While teaching, Ms. Zapata was a National Fields Trial Director with the FOSS Science System and also a contributing teacher writer for the Education Department of the San Diego Union newspaper. At SHA she started the 6th grade camping program and the 4th grade train trip to San Juan Capistrano. She has taught most grades at SHA and is now teaching the children of former students. What she lives most about SHA is the family-like religious atmosphere.
